The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 7, 8 and 9 remain some of the most capable all-wheel-drive performance cars ever built. With their aggressive factory suspension geometry, wide track and Brembo braking package, the Evo platform responds exceptionally well to the right wheel and tyre combination.

Whether you're building a fast street car, dedicated track machine or aggressive show build, choosing the correct wheel size and offset is essential for achieving the perfect balance of performance, clearance and appearance.

This guide covers proven fitments for the Evolution VII, VIII and IX.

Evo 7–9 Platform Quick Reference

Model Years PCD Hub Bore Factory Wheel
Evolution VII 2001–2003 5x114.3 67.1mm 17x8J +38
Evolution VIII 2003–2005 5x114.3 67.1mm 17x8J +38
Evolution IX 2005–2007 5x114.3 67.1mm 17x8J +38

Good news: All Evo 7, 8 and 9 models share the same 5x114.3 PCD, 67.1mm hub bore and very similar suspension geometry, making wheel fitment recommendations largely interchangeable across all three generations.

For owners looking for an OEM+ appearance with excellent road manners, these fitments offer the best combination of performance, comfort and practicality.

Tyres

  • 265/35R18

Most Popular OEM+ Fitment

If you're looking for a proven setup that balances appearance, handling and everyday usability, this is one of the most popular combinations among Evo owners.

  • 18x9.5J +22

  • 255/35R18

This fitment offers a flush stance, excellent steering response and strong grip while remaining suitable for spirited street driving and occasional track days.

Things to Watch

  • Brembo Brake Clearance: Evolution 7–9 models are equipped with large Brembo brake packages. Always confirm brake clearance before ordering, especially when selecting multi-spoke wheels or lower-disc designs.
  • Hub Bore: all Evo 7–9 models use a 67.1mm hub bore. Many aftermarket Japanese wheels have a larger centre bore, so hub-centric rings are recommended where required.
  • Wheel Width & Offset: the Evo platform accepts wider wheels than many Japanese performance cars, but wheel width, tyre size, suspension height and alignment all influence clearance. Aggressive offsets or tyres wider than 265mm may require additional negative camber or minor guard modifications.
  • Tyre Selection: a quality performance tyre often makes a greater difference than wheel width alone. Matching the correct tyre to your intended use will maximise grip, steering feel and braking performance.
